Canucks Fans: What Do You Think of This?

I found an interesting tidbit on Mats Sundin over on James Mirtle’s From The Rink Blog.

I have to admit that back when Sundin was an unsigned free agent, I was hoping and thinking that he would sign with the New York Rangers. However, based on the comments from Mr. Benjamin, I’m happy that he’s not with the Blueshirts.

What do you folks think out there in Canuckland?

If Sundin’s one contribution to the Canucks was to help Kesler develop into an elite two-way player, I (and every Canuck fan) should be happy. His on ice play has been sluggish, but by all accounts he has helped Kesler both on and off the ice.

I don’t get the issue with this - the cap money was essentially dead. The Canucks weren’t going to spend it elsewhere, and it isn’t like any fan lost money when Sundin signed. The playoffs are far from over as well.

Totally agree with you DobberHockey. Kesler is shining right now and it has a lot to do with the skilled players he’s with.

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about. Sundin looked pretty darn good last night and for goodness sakes, it was the first playoff game of the season. I choose to take the wait and see approach.

He did almost score on a rebound.  Game of inches.  Had he scored everyone would be saying he stepped up.  Vancouver’s whole powerplay seemed a little unorganized last night.  If it settles down with him on it, he will produce.  I firmly believe his hip is shot.  His speed used to be so deadly and now he can hardly keep up.

What’s alarming is just how different he looks than he did last season in Toronto. He was one of the best players in the NHL on a brutal team here in 2007-08, and is so far from that at this point that it really makes you wonder the cause (beyond missing so much time).

I can’t see him playing another season while in this shape.

He does look sluggish but he’s still a big-bodied centre who MUST be respected by the opposition - especially down low.  The Sedin twins are producing huge because the opposition coaches can’t just game plan to shut them down unlike last year with Naslund & Morrison on the second line.  Speaking of, Ranger blogger, what do you think of Naslund?
