Curious Move for Rangers: No Sean Avery

According to Andrew Gross via Twitter, New York Rangers’ forward Sean Avery will be a scratch when the team takes on the San Jose Sharks tonight.
This is quite a curious move for the Blueshirts as Avery has not been terrible for the hockey team. He plays hard, he generates scoring opportunities and for the most part, has stayed out of trouble on the ice.
On the other hand, it has definitely been noticeable that team head coach John Tortorella continues to cut down on Avery’s ice time. Whenever someone asks Tortorella about Avery, Tortorella always says that he wants Avery to be engaged in the play but at the same time, play within himself.
May be Avery is confused by the message because he is not quite sure how exactly he wants to play. He wants to play the way he always has but at the same time, he does not want to put his team in penalty trouble.
What do you folks think?
