Paul was kind enough to point out this article on New York Rangers’ young rookie defenseman Michael Del Zotto from Michael Hayakawa of YorkRegion.com:
In last Saturday’s home opener against the Ottawa Senators, Del Zotto became a fan favourite when he scored his first NHL goal, a screen shot near the left faceoff circle with 51 seconds remaining in the second period that vaulted the Rangers to a 3-1 lead en route to a 5-2 victory.
In Monday’s 3-2 road win over the New Jersey Devils, Del Zotto scored the club’s opening goal on the power play and collected an assist.
“Scoring my first NHL goal in front of my family (father Steve, mom Lee and brother David) and a couple of close friends and hearing the fans go crazy is a feeling I won’t forget,” the Markham Waxers’ minor hockey product said after practice Wednesday. “I’m glad I got it over with sooner than later.
“But I haven’t really accomplished anything yet. After playing nine games I could still be sent down (back to the London Knights). I’ve played in two (NHL) games and it’s unbelievable. It’s something I’ve dreamed of doing since I was little.
“For now, I’m just trying to prove myself every day that I belong here.”
