Do They Have a Chance?

This game could not come at a worse time for the New York Rangers as tonight, they take on the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden.

As most of the hockey world knows, the Caps’ are the NHL’s hottest team right now, winning 11 straight games. The Caps’ will obviously be looking to feast on the Blueshirts’ tonight with their high-powered offense.

Unfortunately, the Rangers do not have anything close to match the Caps’ offense so if the team is going to win tonight, they will have to do it with incredibly strong goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist and a strong defensive game.

What would be nice is if Olli Jokinen had is coming out party on Broadway and lit the lamp a few times tonight while other players such as Marian Gaborik, Vinny Prospal, Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky also put the puck in the net. Obviously, asking for five goals is crazy but hey, this team needs to do whatever it can to win a hockey game, right?

Dan Rosen at NHL.com ponders the following regarding the Caps’:

Here’s a question that ought to get the bloggers and talking heads around the NHL all fired up, not to mention the affable Bruce Boudreau.

Will the Washington Capitals lose another game this season?

Just floating it out there, that’s all. Sorry, Coach—had to do it.

Now, let’s not get silly here—we can pretty much assume the Capitals will lose again before the 2009-10 regular season ends April 11. Or, at least, we think they will, though Alex Ovechkin and Co. have given us no indication of that over their last 11 games.

Obviously, the Rangers will have an uphill battle tonight.

What’s also unfortunate for the Blueshirts is that they play the New Jersey Devils at the Garden on Saturday night. This will be another tough game as the Rangers try to garner as many points as they can heading into the Olympic break.

We’ll see what happens folks but something tells me that these next two games will tell us what kind of team the Rangers are right now.
