Even Bigger Move for Blueshirts

It was going to happen at some point and in my opinion, this was the best way for it to occur. Petr Prucha, Nigel Dawes and Dmitri Kalinin were sent to the Phoenix Coyotes for defenseman Derek Morris.
He may only have 12 points this season but is obviously an upgrade over Kalinin and gives the power play another point man.
What do you folks think of this one

That is a lot to give up.

Animal, I think that looking at this deal, the Rangers have had spare parts all year. Prucha and Dawes were both juggled in and out of the lineup, and Tortorella said he doesn’t carry healthy scratches because he has no use for them. Also, the Rangers have a bunch of RFA’s coming up and they can’t afford to keep all of their guys. They probably figured trade them now and try to make a run instead of letting them walk this summer. The Rangers also just brought back Avery and acquired Antropov, so that replaces the 2 forwards they lost. I don’t mind this deal, as Prucha and Dawes weren’t ever solid contributors. Losing Prucha stings a little bit, because he could thrive somewhere else but he was ruined here by Tom Renney’s system, and the constant benchings for inferior players like Voros. Morris will stabilize the defense and should help out on the anemic, but newly revamped power play. I think Sather did alright today.

I thought New York loved Nigel Dawes!

Derek Morris has 1 Powerplay point this year. It’s an assist. But you never know maybe he’ll help out NY. Probably be more solid defensively, looks like Sather got the best he could out of what was available, and what he had to work with.

I liked Nigel, but he just isn’t that great and his upside isn’t huge. He has good hands around the net, but he is too small and he doesn’t have the speed or quickness to create room for himself consistently. The Rangers have a bunch of players with relatively similar skill sets. Between Callahan, Korpikoski, Sjostrom, Betts, these two were expendable, especially when guys like Staal, Dubisnky, Zherdev and other are all approaching RFA either this year or next. Also, acquiring Antropov and Avery in the last couple days replaces their spots for this year, so I am okay with it. They are a better team right now then they were yesterday, Antropov actually is their leading scorer, and I don’t think they lost anything they will regret in the future.
