Heatley and the New York Rangers: Would you do it?

From Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants:
You point out that Dany Heatley wants out of Ottawa. Then you note that his $7.5 million annual salary approximates Scott Gomez’s cap hit to the Rangers, plus the fact that both have limited movement clauses in their contract. Then you wisely suggest that Heatley’s offensive prowess might be a good fit for a team that struggles to score like the Rangers.
Seriously, if you’re GM Glen Sather, you have to at least pick up the phone and see if there are any parameters to make a deal. No way the Senators do Heatley for Gomez straight up (at least I wouldn’t if I were the Senators) but would Gomez and a first-round pick do the trick, or maybe Gomez and one of the Rangers D-man prospects and/or a first-round pick. I’m not sure and perhaps the price goes too high. But, if you’re Glen Sather, you have to pick up the phone.

Sadly for Rangers fans, this won’t happen. Five years of Gomez would not help the Senators, and they felt confident enough at center to trade away Vermette. The Senators also have seven NHL defensemen signed for next year, and Bell as an RFA with prospects like Wiercioch and Karlsson soon to push for spots as well. There is no fit to be had here for the Rangers, and I don’t think much chance for a fit within the East for roster and other reasons.

Yeah, the question isn’whether the Rangers should do it, that would be a no brainer. Of course you’d rather have a 40 goal scorer (ok, 39) who is looking for a change of scenery than a big-budget bust.
The question is, through all the dummy moves he’s made in the last couple years, is Murray even dumb enough to make that trade?
Answer? No, of course he isn’t.

Gomez for Heatley. No way Gomez is worth anything close to Heatley. Are we watching the same NHL games here?
