Intrigued

I know that many of you New York Ranger fans out there were certainly intrigued by reports that Mats Sundin had selected the Blueshirts as the team he wanted to play for this season.
However, Sam Weinman, Rangers’ beat writer for The Journal News, reported that Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, said in an e-mail that the big Swede has yet to make a decision but at the same time, noted that the Blueshirts have expressed their interest.
The plot thickens folks. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of days because it’s a rematch of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals for Mats: the New York Rangers vs. the Vancouver Canucks, who already offered him a two-year deal worth $20 million.
It’s tough to say what the Blueshirts are going to do. If they want Sundin, who do they dump? Michal Rozsival, Wade Redden, Petr Prucha would have to be considered primary targets but like Weinman mentioned, it’s very unlikely that GM Glen Sather could move Rozsival or Redden.
However, it’s nice to think how Sundin could help the Rangers as they get into the nitty and gritty of the regular season:
- He can provide more scoring
- He can help out the power play (that’s an understatement)
- He makes the Rangers a legitimate contender
- Has lots of experience as a leader
- Like everyone else on the Rangers, is looking to advance further into the playoffs rather than fall in the first or second round
So what do you think is going to happen folks? Will we see a new number 13 on Broadway (I would assume that Nikolai Zherdev will give his up for Mats) come January or will we see the same inconsistent Ranger team that is currently confusing us?

About Goal Line Report
The Goal Line Report will focus on all things Eastern Conference. Do I have a bias towards the Eastern Conference just because I am a New Yorker? No, but it certainly does make things easier! I’ll make my opinions known on Eastern Conference news bits (as often as I can), big games, hot and cold players, trades (I don’t make things up) and anything and everything else related to the Eastern Conference that I think is important for hockey fans to know. I will, in every sense of the word, be the beast of the East while also making sure to drop my thoughts on other hockey news items.
I, Patrick Hoffman, have covered the NHL since 2003 and have worked for a variety of hockey media sources including: Stan Fischler, Spector’s Hockey, TheHockeyNews.com, HockeyBuzz.com, McKeen’s Hockey, Blueshirt Bulletin, XM Home Ice Channel Hockey Blog, HockeyPrimeTime.com, FantasyHockey.com.
