Good friend of the blog Jim Cerny, also the New York Rangers’ beat writer for the team web site, posted an excellent comment on his Twitter account earlier today regarding the team’s loss to the St. Louis Blues last night:
What struck me last night: Henrik lifts Rangers all the time, but his teammates never pick him up and win games in which he struggles.
What do you folks think?

King Henrik’s problem is that he spends way too little time on his skates. Contrast to our all-time greats, Eddie Giacomin and Mike Richter, who were stand-up, angle goalies, King Henrik flops as soon as they finish the National Anthem. He rarely cuts down angles and as such is always vulnerable high, glove side.
One of the best “flop” goaltenders we’ve seen, he’s also shown a troubling propensity to let in goals in big situations.
I agree that unfortunately, on this team, he has no room for error, and does have to play 100% every night. But he’s not in the same universe with Richter and Steady Eddie.

Jim is completely accurate. Lundqvist has to play at 100+% each night. Tortorella doesn’t have a strong defensive system in place. Their forwards are pushing to break out of the defensive zone, not collapsing to protect the net. He get’s no support.
