Just Wondering…

With Craig MacTavish out as the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, I wanted to gauge your thoughts on whether you folks think that former New York Rangers bench boss Tom Renney would be the right fit in Edmonton.

Let’s hear it folks.

No way, offer the job to Paul MacLean! Red Wings assistant has been with Babcock since Anahiem and could work wonders with the team up in Edmonton. This man truely deserves a shot!

Agreed on MacLean getting a shot.  Look at the last Wings assistant to get a head coaching gig.  Seems to be working out for him thus far.

Renney seems like a similar version of MacTavish.  Need to go with a different style in Edmonton.

Go WINGS!

From what I remember, aren’t Renney and MacT both “player’s coaches”?  If that’s the case, I was thinking a Bob-Hartley-type would be better-suited there for a change of apce.

For my money, Oilers GM Steve Tambellini should take a serious look at former Rangers coach Tom Renney. The two have a past relationship from their days together in Vancouver, where Renney was coach and Tambellini was working his way up the Canucks’ front office. Renney, by the way, is good friends with MacTavish. But Renney is an excellent teacher and the Oilers have a mostly young core.

About Goal Line Report

The Goal Line Report will focus on all things Eastern Conference. Do I have a bias towards the Eastern Conference just because I am a New Yorker? No, but it certainly does make things easier! I’ll make my opinions known on Eastern Conference news bits (as often as I can), big games, hot and cold players, trades (I don’t make things up) and anything and everything else related to the Eastern Conference that I think is important for hockey fans to know. I will, in every sense of the word, be the beast of the East while also making sure to drop my thoughts on other hockey news items.

I, Patrick Hoffman, have covered the NHL since 2003 and have worked for a variety of hockey media sources including: Stan Fischler, Spector’s Hockey, TheHockeyNews.com, HockeyBuzz.com, McKeen’s Hockey, Blueshirt Bulletin, XM Home Ice Channel Hockey Blog, HockeyPrimeTime.com, FantasyHockey.com. NY SportsDay, and HokejaVestnesis.com.
