Just Wondering Department

With New Jersey Devils netminder Martin Brodeur set to return tonight against the Colorado Avalanche, I am wondering just how much of a difference he will make.

Without their star netminder this season, the team is 32-17-1 and is coming off with some great play from Scott Clemmenssen, who was sent down to the AHL yesterday.

What do you folks think?

If you don’t think the Devils will be much better with Brodeur who haven’t actually watched the Devils this year.

Clemmensen has respectable numbers but numbers don’t tell the story. That is he was basically living on the edge. His rebound control was awful and if the Devils in front of him had an off night they probably didn’t win the game. That will be the big difference, Brodeur will be able to win those games where Clemmer for the most part didn’t. That is going to be the difference and while it might not show it in the regular season standings it will come playoff time.

That isn’t to knock Clemmensen, he did far more than what was asked of him. But I don’t think you can find one Devils fan that isn’t ecstatic that Marty is back.

Oh, I know that Marty will make a big difference. This is one of the greatest goaltenders of all time we are talking about.

I am just curious as to what other hockey fans think.

I think the Avs are the perfect team for Marty to get started with.

There’s not much room for improvement.  Brodeur’s obviously a better goalie than Clemmenson, but the Devils have been winning games because of their skaters.  That’ll continue.  The only difference is that they’ll have a little bit more of a chance to steal games they don’t deserve to win—but if their play of late is anything to go by, they deserve to win most games.  So don’t expect their winning percentage to jump.

Agree with jkrdevil.  Clemmensen had some really good games, but watching him was tough at times.  Clemmensen is a good positional goalie, but his movement in net was not as fluid as Brodeur or even Weekes.  Weekes problem is that he has great movement but is not always in the best position for the initial shot.

Brodeur has both going for him and that is why he is the best.  However, I am afraid the Devils might do worse because they might take Brodeur for granted.
