If you are a New York Rangers fan or had been watching the team the past month and a half or so, you knew that the team was going to make a change whether it was with management, acquiring/trading a player or firing the coach.
As it turns out, it was the third option as the team let go of head coach Tom Renney and replaced him with John Tortorella. While many people will feel for Renney and believe that it really wasn’t his fault, this move had to be made and Tortorella will come in, hold players accountable and may be just the guy that the team needs going forward.

Wonder where was Eklund and his all-seeing prognostications.

I agree with Torts coming in because he is the type of coach what this team needs. I do not agree with the firing of Renney if anybody should have been fired it should have been Sather. He is the one who brought in all these guys and signed these ridiculous contracts. Sather needs to be held accountable and now.

Renney was the only one who was going to go. Dolan’s not going to fire his GM-for-life, Sather. Sather wasn’t going to admit that he made a mistake in signing Redden, Gomez, and Drury, or anyone else for that matter. So if you can’t move the GM or the players, who’s left? Not that Renney was completely blameless, but he probably did not deserve this fate. I’m sure he’ll get a chance somewhere else soon unless he stays within the Rangers organization.
