Not His Fault

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist did everything he could last night to give his team a chance to steal two points against the high-flying Chicago Blackhawks. Unfortunately for Henrik, no one else jumped on board as the Blueshirts lost 2-1 in overtime.
In regulation time, Lundqvist was magnificent in making 39 saves and was almost able to keep out Jonathan Toews’ equalizer with less than six minutes to go in the third period. However, when you give up that many shots and that many quality chances, pucks are bound to go in the net and that’s exactly what happened to the Blueshirts last night.
In watching head coach John Tortorella’s post-game press conference, it was easy to see how upset he was. He knew that his team did not deserve to get a point and that the only players that came to play were Lundqvist and the team’s fourth line.
Going into the game, I’m sure the Rangers knew just how dangerous the Blackhawks could be when they had the puck. Yet, the Blackhawks seemed to have the puck all night long as the team took bad penalties and chased their opponent around the rink all night.
What do the Rangers need to do to close out games? The team had a chance to win both last night and on Sunday night against the Detroit Red Wings but fell victim to goals late in the game. Yes, Sunday night’s game winning goal can definitely be blamed on Lundqvist but last night’s goal, I don’t think so.
The team will be back on the ice on Saturday night at the Garden to take on Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres. Will the effort be there?

Lundqvist’s game was better than most of the shutout performances last night, I cannot recount all of the quality scoring chances the BlackHawks had, the Rengers Defense (Defence for some of you) looked mystified.
I have not seen the Conklin shutout, and of course your mileage may vary.
