Pick Your Netminder

As you all know, there are currently eight teams remaining in the playoffs, which could change as soon as tonight depending on the outcomes of the Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks vs. Chicago Blackhawks games tonight.

With that said, this means that there are eight goalies remaining. Out of curiosity, which goalie would you want to have lead your team to the Stanley Cup? Why?

Eastern Conference

- Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins
- Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes

- Simeon Varlamov, Washington Capitals
- Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins

Western Conference

- Chris Osgood, Detroit Red Wings
- Jonas Hiller, Anaheim Ducks

- Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
- Nikolai Khabibulin, Chicago Blackhawks

cam ward or khabibulen, because they are proven playoff performers

I would only consider 3 of the remaining goalies:

Cam Ward - Amazing goalie, has won it before, young so he would be around for years

Khabibulin - On the tail end of his career but has won it before

Osgood - Most experienced (in terms of cup wins), picks up play for the playoffs, very calm

If I had to narrow it down Cam Ward would be the goalie I would want in my franchise.  He is going to have a long and successful career.

Cam Ward gets the nod here…won it before and is completely in the zone this postseason.  Luongo a close second just because he is probably the most skilled goaltender of the 8 left.

Ozzie. For one game, one series, or one playoff season, I’d pick Ozzie. More of a proven playoff performer than the others. Calm and steady. And he never ever gives up on a play. Oz is in the top ten in most career goalie stats and by the end of this playoff season, he’ll be a shoe-in for the HOF.

Did you see that save on Christensen, yesterday?

Ward, then Thomas.
Luongo has not been as good as what was expected of him.

Maybe the better question would be which one would you not want.

Fleury.  Simply because I will never forget Game 2 in the SCF last year in which he led the team running out of the tunnel and tripped onto the ice and hilarity ensued.  Not the message you want your team to send during warmups.

Anyone but Fleury… He’s the weakest by far and I’m a Pens fan.
