Potential Lines for the Blueshirts?

From Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants:

But before I head out, thought I’d post my line and defense pairing projections. Please note the inclusion of Sergei Zubov in the top six defensemen. That’s my prediction for GM Glen Sather’s next offseason move. Please note the exclusion of Nikolai Zherdev and Lauri Korpikoski.

Marian Gaborik-Chris Drury-Ales Kotalik
Christopher Higgins-Brandon Dubinsky-Ryan Callahan
Sean Avery-Artem Anisimov-Evgeny Grachev
Donald Brashear-Brian Boyle-Dane Byers (Henceforth designated the new Killer Bs)

Marc Staal-Dan Girardi
Wade Redden-Michal Rozsival
Matt Gilroy-Sergei Zubov

Click here for more? Having Chris Drury as the team’s No.1 center is somewhat worrisome considering how much he has underperformed in his two seasons on Broadway. Other than that, the lines look pretty interesting and I’d be curious to see how they performed under head coach John Tortorella. What do you folks think?

Oh man, the perils of being a NYR fan. Some of my fellow Wings fans are a little down about losing 4 players in the off-season. Well a sure fire way to feel better is to take a gander at this roster. Rangers fans, my condolences on the upcoming season....

The Rangers still need a forward or two since its likely Zherdev and Korpikoski wont be returning. As for Defense im not sure if Zubov is the best fit since hes oft injured and his age doesnt help. The Rangers are better off getting a guy via trade for perhaps Zherdev. They lack a checking center for the third and fourth lines, Mike Peca or Dom Moore might be good additions for those roles. If they dont land a D-man then they should give Illka Heikkinen (spelling) a try after putting up good numbers in the Finnish league.

It’s a typical Rangers roster.

Oh man...2nd line looks ok. 4th line will see 3 mins/game and be a minus 10 every game. I really thought you guys had the makings of a solid team 2-3 yrs ago but it just got flushed so quickly. Sorry.

As a Habs fan, I’m glad they’re NOT in my division!!  Look good!

You can’t be serious, Habsdoc. That team is super soff and super brittle. Sather gets a break by moving Gomez, but he gets a far less durable player for the same amount. He’s a moron. They are a borderline playoff team.

People talk about players not having loyalty to teams but look at Sather.  He has no loyalty to players.  Most guys who actually wanted to play for the Rangers (and not just for the money) are gone.  With Sather’s way of thinking, I don’t expect Dubinsky, Staal, Girardi, or Callahan to all still be here in 2 years.  The only loyalty in the organization coming from the administration is Dolan to Sather, and everyone knows how much of a dimwit Dolan is.

i think the better question is: who the f*ck cares?  the rangers suck now, they sucked last year, they’ll suck next year.  who’s gonna score?  gaborik will be injured most of the year.  drury is an overpaid 3rd line player.  higgins, well, he’ll get a few.  and kotalik sucks.  the defence looks universally bad, and lundqvist is over-rated.  glen sather: how that guy keeps his job is beyond me.

Please no Zubov. He is 100 years old, the Rangers don’t need another old guy. Detroit or SJ or a team like that is good for him, not NYR. The lineup is crappy, Kotalik and Drury as your first liners...they’d be 3rd liners on any other team except for maybe the Islanders. Although he shows very little offensive capabilities, I don’t think Korpi is going anywhere, and I think if possible the Rangers will move Zherdev, but it seems highly unrealistic that he will be awarded the money he is seeking through arbitration. This is, as previously mentioned, a borderline playoff team, with the league’s worst GM. They lack leadership (Drury is the worst captain I’ve ever seen), a #1center, chemistry, and many more aspects that compose a winning team. Fire Sather!!!!

About Goal Line Report

The Goal Line Report will focus on all things Eastern Conference. Do I have a bias towards the Eastern Conference just because I am a New Yorker? No, but it certainly does make things easier! I’ll make my opinions known on Eastern Conference news bits (as often as I can), big games, hot and cold players, trades (I don’t make things up) and anything and everything else related to the Eastern Conference that I think is important for hockey fans to know. I will, in every sense of the word, be the beast of the East while also making sure to drop my thoughts on other hockey news items.

I, Patrick Hoffman, have covered the NHL since 2003 and have worked for a variety of hockey media sources including: Stan Fischler, Spector’s Hockey, TheHockeyNews.com, HockeyBuzz.com, McKeen’s Hockey, Blueshirt Bulletin, XM Home Ice Channel Hockey Blog, HockeyPrimeTime.com, FantasyHockey.com. NY SportsDay, and HokejaVestnesis.com.
