Ranger Crisis?

No, this blog is not about the New York Rangers being in trouble. This blog is an e-mail interview I did with Eddie “The Mouth” of the famed Ranger Crisis video blog.

This is not going to be in the usual format that I post interviews. By now, you folks know all the questions that I asked so instead, I am going to post it more as a story where you get to know the guy behind the site and how he got into hockey, the New York Rangers, blogging and his thoughts on the current team.

So before the Rangers get underway in Ottawa against the Senators or some time in between periods, please check this e-mail interview out.

I first got into hockey, kind of in an odd way. When cable television was in its infancy on Long Island, all Ranger home games were broadcast. I was about 10 years old and began watching them. My favorite players at the time were Bill Fairbairn and Greg Polis. A couple of years later, I became a big fan of Don Murdoch. As I got older, my passion for hockey grew with each passing year, which led me to do sports radio both in high school and in college. After which, I took a long break from reporting about sports and just strictly watched as a fan from the sidelines.

It wasn’t until April of last year that I decided to return to reporting about my favorite subject, New York Rangers Hockey. I decided to do a blog that was a non-traditional sort, and go with something a bit different in a video blog. The Ranger Crisis.com video blog allows me to feature many pieces of rare footage from my own, personal collection and also allows me to comment on the subject of the videos on my own unique style.

With the success of the video blog has come a great opportunity for me to connect with Ranger fans, young and old. It also has allowed me to make great friends in the blogging community, one of which is the folks at BlueshirtBanter.com. We have gotten along so famously that we have combined forces on a project called Blueshirt Banter Radio, where ex Ranger players come to interact with fans and we get the chance to take Ranger fan’s phone calls two nights a week.

This partnership with Blueshirt Banter is indicative of how the blogging community, for the most part, works together rather than against itself. This is unlike traditional media and unique to new media, especially in the hockey realm. My main passion will always be discussing Ranger hockey, and at the present time there is a lot to talk about.

The Blueshirts have had some nice surprises this year in the play of Vinny Prospal, Ales Kotalik, and the brilliant play of rookie Michael Del Zotto. There have also been some real disappointments, the continued decline of Michael Rozsival’s play on the back line, Brandon Dubinsky (before the injury), and Christopher Higgins’s slow start.

Now that the season is almost one fourth over, I have gotten a better feel about where this team is going and it doesn’t vary too much from what I thought before the season began. I feel the Rangers can finish anywhere from sixth to eighth in the Eastern conference, and maybe win one playoff series but that is about it.

The future is not entirely bleak out there for the die hard Ranger fan. The team will take its lumps until some of the loftier contracts are up, but the Rangers’ future and plethora of talented prospects ensures that the Rangers, within the next two to three years, will become an Eastern conference force.
