Ranger Tribune Blogger Gives Perfect Assessment of Blueshirts

Apparently, every New York Ranger blogger agree that today’s game against the Boston Bruins has huge playoff implications. Looking at the standings, this is not hard to see and as I mentioned in my blog yesterday, every game from here on out is a big one.
Great friend of the blog Nicholas Montemagno of the tremendous Rangers Tribune blog agrees with my sentiments:
Game seven, do or die, sudden death. Those are all phrases that have been used to describe today’s matinee between the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins at the Boston Garden. It should be easy for both teams to wake up for this game, no matter what time it starts, because they know their season is on the line. Both clubs have been struggling as of late and their fans are showing their displeasure.
He also believes that if the Blueshirts lose this afternoon, the consequences will be dire:
At the moment, the Blueshirts sit in tenth place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind Atlanta (ninth) and three points behind Boston (eighth). A win this afternoon would put the Rangers one point behind the Bruins for eighth place, but if they lose, then they will be five points out and in big trouble. So basically a loss today would close the curtain on a very disappointing season for New York.
Nicholas was able to have a great conversation with former New Jersey Devils, St.Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers, Detroit Red Wings, and Rangers future Hall-of-Famer Brendan Shanahan on Twitter. Nicholas asked Shanahan what he thought the Blueshirts chances were of making the playoffs and Shanny had a pretty simple response:
Lucky enough, I was able to speak to former Ranger Brendan Shanahan on twitter last night, when I asked him if he thought the Rangers can still make the playoffs. His response? “It’s up to Hank”. Brendan is exactly right; Henrik Lundqvist is going to have to be the story for the rest of the season if the Rangers want to make the playoffs. The coaching staff may not want it to be that way, but quite frankly, they have no choice.
Nicholas and Shanny are absolutely right as the “King” makes this team go. Luckily for the Rangers’ he is 3-0 against the B’s and should be motivated more than ever to make it 4-0 after a somewhat dismal performance against the Blues on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
Nicholas also mentions that Gaborik will have to step up his game:
The other player that is going to have to help carry this team to the playoffs is forward Marian Gaborik. Marian had a 3-point night on Thursday, his eighth of the season, and looked like he finally had his legs back since returning from injury. The Rangers need Gaborik on the score sheet in every game from this point on, along with players like Vinny Prospal.
All in all, this was a terrific blog from a great Rangers’ blogger who was accurate and fair in taking a look at this game and this hockey club.
