Rangers Buying Out Chris Drury?

From New York Rangers’ beat writer Jesse Spector of The Daily News:
I did want to update the blog, though, just in case you didn’t see the story in the paper or on the “main” part of the website, that a source said the final year of Chris Drury’s contract will be bought out. “He’s gone,” the source told the Daily News.
This news is not a shocker, even though it certainly is a big deal that the Rangers plan to cut ties with their captain. A buyout of Drury has been expected ever since John Tortorella spoke about the 34-year-old forward on breakup day, saying that while he has a “great relationship” with Drury, the Rangers must make their decisions based on what happens on the ice, and even as he pointed to intangibles being important, Tortorella also said, “You can’t let the intangibles override other things, too.”

What took so long.
Drury sounds like a great guy and superb captain.
But his contract has got to be the worst since the lockout. To pay so much money for a career 50-point guy is insane.
Everyone but Sather knew that his offensive punch in Buffalo had way more to do with their system than anything else.
Noway he was going to reproduce those totals in NY.
I wish Drury luck. But unless he’s willing to make close to the league minimum, his NHL days are over.
