Rangers’ Lines and Defensive Pairings for Tonight

Andrew Gross of The Record and Ranger Rants is at practice this morning and reports back the following line combinations and defensive pairings:

Christopher Higgins-Chris Drury-Ales Kotalik
Evgeny Grachev-Artem Anisimov-Ryan Callahan
Donald Brashear-Brian Boyle-P.A. Parenteau
Dane Byers-Matt Maccarone-Enver Lisin
Marc Staal-Matt Gilroy
Michael Del Zotto-Dan Girardi
Alexei Semenov-Mike Sauer
G: Steve Valiquette, Matt Zaba

Drury and Kotalik played together for long stretches in Buffalo so I wouldn’t be surprised to see that pair start with Marian Gaborik on the right wing. And Staal and Gilroy could make a very nice defensive pairing as their game seems to complement each other well. Staal, always responsible and poised in his own end and being pushed to contribute more offensively by John Tortorella, and Gilroy, whose go-for-it offensive style has already impressed Tortorella. As well, Del Zotto could possibly be paired with Girardi if he makes the big club, which would then leave Wade Redden-Michal Rozsival as the third set. But that’s getting way ahead of ourselves.
