Figured I’d change the wording around in the title to get your attention better. As has been most of the summer, not too much news floating around Rangerland these days besides the impending Nikolai Zherdev arbitration hearing. At this point, I’m ready to say good riddance to the Russian, who is asking for more money than he is worth, especially with the way he played this season. If he does not end up coming back to the Blueshirts, which team will be gullible enough to sign him?
I also think it’s pretty interesting that the New York Islanders decided to sign goaltender Martin Biron yesterday. It’s quite obvious that “franchise” netminder Rick DiPietro will not be ready to go come October and who knows how much longer after that. With Dwayne Roloson and Biron between the pipes, the Isles’ actually now have stability in net. Who would have thunk it?

Did you watch every Ranger game last year? Are you a Rangers fan? Sometimes stats aren’t the only thing that tell the story…

I’d give him what the arbitrator rules, as long as it is not more than 4 mil, for one year, and see if the guy can live up to his potential. If not I’d let him walk then. The Rangers need offense, this team is going to be lucky to score 3 goals a game, and Zherdev supplies some offense. Is he worth the qualifying offer let alone 4 mil, nope, but maybe him on a line with the young Russians, he’ll thrive.

I find it very interesting how quickly the New York Ranger fans and media are will to get rid of their top scorer and a guy who put up a pretty good Corsi Number last year in Nikolai Zherdev and claim it is based on how he played last year (which in my book as as good as or better than any position player on the team).
