Rangers Raise Ticket Prices

From James Mirtle at From the Rink:
The Rangers just sent out their season’s ticket renewal prices this afternoon, and I’ve already been hearing from angry fans about prices going up to the tune of between 4 and 9 per cent given the economy and the way the team played this season.
“I don’t think I’m renewing next year,” ticket holder Nik Latorre said. “The product they iced this year doesn’t justify such a significant raise in price. I can’t see how they have the second worst offensive production in the league and have the marbles to RAISE prices when so many teams are lowering or freezing.”
By my count, the Rangers’ price hike will be the second- or third-highest out of any NHL team this season, although the data’s far from complete when it comes to comparing things like this on a team-to-team basis. What is clear is that hockey fans in New York are far from happy with how the season unfolded despite the fact they took the Caps to seven games in Round 1.

i would happily renew my tickets with a 5-9% ticket increase . . . . if my rangers would increase their scoring by 5-9% (not to mention their pp)
lets go rangers

Thank goodness for the salary cap. How else would small market teams like the Rangers survive since they are so dependent on gate receipts to just be able to generate enough revenue to reach the salary cap floor?
I’m sure if the Rangers could have won just one more playoff game the fans wouldn’t have to pay higher ticket prices. The extra round of playoff gate receipts could have put MSG in the black. So instead the fans get to pay extra for a disappointing playoff run. If they misss the playoffs altogether next year they’ll need to raise ticket prices by 10% to recoup the lossed playoff revenue.

I am going to more then make up for the ticket increase (mine went up 4 bucks each in the 300’s) by not buying a single overpriced beer in MSG this season. It will be tough but I’ll do all my drinking before and after the game at Penn Station or the Blarney Rock. Hopefully if I get upgraded into a better section (I’m in 345) then something good will come out of this greedy grab of an increase. By the way we should all salute the Dolans with a beer boycott night.
