Rangers Take Care of Business Against Dallas

The New York Rangers did just about everything right tonight to win a hockey game. They were excellent with special teams play, they got contributions up and down the lineup, their goaltender played well when they needed to and as a result, the team ended up with a 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.
The team also got one heck of a performance from Sean Avery. He had four points (1G, 3A) and was his normal self all over the ice tonight, creating a distraction for the Stars all night. It’s this kind of performance that shows you what kind of hockey player Avery can be when he puts his mind and body to it.
It was also nice to see guys like Chris Drury (1G), Marian Gaborik (1G…what else is new), Ales Kotalik (1G) and Ryan Callahan (1G) put the puck in the net. It shows that when they work hard and play like this on a consistent basis, that they can implement a balanced scoring attack.
For the Blueshirts, this means two straight wins at home (first since October 26 - November 1, 2009), two straight wins in general and a big two points in the standings. As of right now, the team currently has 47 points, putting them just one point behind the sixth place Ottawa Senators.
For all of our complaining, that’s not too bad. If the playoffs were to start today, the team would be in it and right now, that should be the focus - making the playoffs and then taking it from there.
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow night on the road against the Atlanta Thrashers. Can they make it three straight?
