Rangers Win Barn Burner Over The Penguins

The New York Rangers passed a big test last night at Madison Square Garden by defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins, No. 1 in the Eastern Conference, by a score of 4-3.
Most importantly, the Rangers’ best players played like they were suppossed to last night. Brad Richards had a goal and two assists, Marian Gaborik had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Callahan also had a goal and an assist.
The team also got another strong performance out of rookie Carl Hagelin. Hagelin picked up his third NHL point on a great assist on John Mitchell’s goal and also had a team high six shots on goal.
Rangers’ netminder Henrik Lundqvist did what he had to do in making 24 saves on 27 shots for his tenth victory of the season. Lundqvist was especially good in the first period making 13 saves on 14 shots.
With the win, the Blueshirts are now 13-5-3 with 29 points. The team sits in fourth in the Eastern Conference and in the club’s last 10 games, they are 8-2.
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow night in Raleigh, NC to take on the struggling Carolina Hurricanes (8-14-4).
With the way the Blueshirts are playing, picking-up two more points should be a reality for the team.

New York area teams certainly love U of M’s hockey team.

It was a good game last night. The Penguins lack of discipline in the third period and lack of focus in the second period really cost them. The Rangers are a solid team. A playoff matchup is possible with these two teams.

Above all else before my fellow Pens fans chime in let this be acknowledged…
Most importantly, the Rangers’ best players played like they were suppossed to last night.
Gaborik, Richards, Lundqvist all played great, at key moments as well. I was impressed with Hagelin, he seems to have really good puck skills/awareness.
Looking forward to seeing these two teams square off again.
