On TSN a few days ago, the channel rated the best agitators in the National Hockey League of all time.
Surprisingly or not surprisingly, New York Rangers’ forward Sean Avery was ranked at No. 5. Every fan and pundit alike has their opinions about the Blueshirt agitator but no matter what it is, Avery is certainly effective in that particular role.
Avery is a guy that you love to hate when he’s on an opposing team but love to have when he’s on yours. He knows how to get under opposing players’ skins, he goes hard into the corners and to the nets and he’s not afraid to get into a scrap. These are all things that fans love about having Avery on their side.
On the other side, however, he is quite hated. He says the wrong things, he baits players into doing things they don’t necessarily want to do. Obviously, these are good reasons to hate such a player.
Do you think that Avery really is fifth best NHL agitator of all time? Does Avery deserve that kind of recognition?
What do you folks think?
