On this somewhat snowy day, I figured I would give you some more of my observations from last night’s 2-1 shootout victory by the New York Rangers over the Washington Capitals:
- New York Rangers’ netminder Martin Biron was calm, cool and collected in goal last night. Made the big saves when he had to and more importantly, was able to help his team pick up two points.
- Washington Capitals’ superstar Alex Ovechkin seems to be getting his game together. You could see it in his speed, the way he put pucks to the net and his overall effort. It would be nice to see him start scoring goals again on a consistent basis.
- The goal that tied the hockey game up for the Rangers was the perfect example that goals do not have to pretty. Just put the puck on net and anything can happen.

- The game was one of the Rangers’ best defensive efforts. Shots came from the outside, Ovechkin was kept quiet and they really clogged up both the neutral and defensive zones.
- Rangers’ defenseman Ryan McDonagh is showing that he belongs in the NHL. Looks very poised and does not make a lot of mistakes.
- I still feel that Rangers’ defenseman Michael del Zotto needs more time down in the AHL. He wasn’t terrible last night but still has a few things to work on.
- One has to wonder what this team is going to be like when everyone is healthy, eh?
