The Captain Gets It Done In Chicago

Every New York Ranger fan knew that tonight’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks was going to be a test for their Blueshirts and the team passed it with flying colors thanks to their captain, Chris Drury, who scored to give the Rangers a 3-2 overtime victory at the sold out United Center.
Many Ranger fans, myself included, were wondering what was wrong with Drury not too long ago. He wasn’t scoring, he wasn’t as sharp defensively and he looked lost. However, in the past two weeks or so, Drury has come alive and in his last six games, has five goals and an assist for six points.
Tonight, both of his goals came on the power play and he scored the way the team should be on their power play all season long: by not being afraid to shoot the puck and go to the net.
That’s three straight wins for this club and with tonight’s win, the team held onto to first place in the ever-tight Atlantic Division. However, tonight’s win was especially sweet given the poor officiating as the Blackhawks had multiple 5-on-3 power plays on questionable calls.
In fact, after the Blackhawks tied the game up at two in the third period, Rangers’ head coach in Tom Renney opened up the bench door and started yelling at the officials and with good reason because they had basically taken the game out of the players’ hands.
Luckily for the Blueshirts, their penalty killing was tremendous and they got some excellent goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist, who had 32 saves on the night.
The Rangers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Mellon Arena. It’s another opportunity for the team to pick up two crucial points as they are 3-0 (two shootout wins) against the Pens’ this season.

About Goal Line Report
The Goal Line Report will focus on all things Eastern Conference. Do I have a bias towards the Eastern Conference just because I am a New Yorker? No, but it certainly does make things easier! I’ll make my opinions known on Eastern Conference news bits (as often as I can), big games, hot and cold players, trades (I don’t make things up) and anything and everything else related to the Eastern Conference that I think is important for hockey fans to know. I will, in every sense of the word, be the beast of the East while also making sure to drop my thoughts on other hockey news items.
I, Patrick Hoffman, have covered the NHL since 2003 and have worked for a variety of hockey media sources including: Stan Fischler, Spector’s Hockey, TheHockeyNews.com, HockeyBuzz.com, McKeen’s Hockey, Blueshirt Bulletin, XM Home Ice Channel Hockey Blog, HockeyPrimeTime.com, FantasyHockey.com. NY SportsDay, and HokejaVestnesis.com.
