The Hockey Maven Knows what The Blueshirts Need to Do

Yesterday evening over at the MSG Network web site, the “Hockey Maven”, Stan Fischler, blogged about what the New York Rangers need to do to win some hockey games:
The grit guys, who can score—especially Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky—must ratchet up their games and it wouldn’t hurt if Avery, whose offense IS there, lights a few red lamps. Ditto for Brandon Prust.
The Hockey Maven is absolutely right, especially when it comes to someone like Ryan Callahan. While Callahan is terrific at blocking shots, killing penalties, going into the corners and taking the body, he’d be even better if he could start contributing more offensively.
In the same blog, Mr. Fischler also said the following:
With Rangers road games immediately ahead of them on Thursday in Toronto and Saturday in Boston before returning to Seventh Avenue on Sunday to host the Devils, the time is NOW for the men in blue, red and white to show their mettle.
This is also very true. It is time for the Blueshirts to show their mental toughness and prove that they can play and win hockey games without two of their better players.
That challenge begins tonight when the team takes on the Colorado Avalanche at Madison Square Garden. The Avs are currently 3-2 and are first in the Northwest Division with 6 points. They’re doing it with timely offense and some good goaltending from both Craig Anderson and Peter Budaj.
The Blueshirts also need to start establishing their home ice advantage so a win tonight against a good, young hockey club would certainly be a start.
It’s up to the Rangers to show what they can do in a tight spot and with some tough games coming up, they’ll need to go above and beyond to win hockey games.
