The Top Line Needs to Produce

From good friend of the blog Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants:
Stop us if you’ve heard this one but plenty of discussion today about the Rangers need to generate offense while, critically, maintaining a good defensive effort as they head into the season’s final 16 games battling for a playoff spot. The top line of Vinny Prospal-Erik Christensen-Marian Gaborik, off the scoresheet in the two games since Gaborik’s return, will be given “another whack” at trying to create some scoring chances tomorrow but it doesn’t sound like coach John Tortorella will have much patience if the line isn’t producing.
Quite frankly, he doesn’t have the time. Tortorella acknowledged that, at this point in the season, he can’t stick with a player in a game if he’s not producing as long as he might have earlier in the season.
“We can’t die on the vine,” said Tortorella, adding this stretch of season is also critical for off-season evaluation purposes.
