This Week’s Questions

Much like I did last Friday, I am going to list a few questions related to what’s going on in the hockey world.
Please feel free to post your thoughts on the following questions in the comment section of the blog:
- Will the St. Louis Blues make the playoffs? Why or why not?
- What is happening to the New Jersey Devils? Why are they struggling so much?
- Is this the last hurrah in Minnesota for Wild head coach Jacques Lemaire? If so, where do you think he will end up coaching next? Why?
- Have the Montreal Canadiens finally righted the ship after a dismal February and early March? What have they done differently?
- Does anyone really believe that Philadelphia Flyers’ netminder Martin Biron can lead his club to the Stanley Cup?
- Are the Chicago Blackhawks good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs?
- Do the Detroit Red Wings have good enough goaltending to get them back to the Stanley Cup Finals?
Let’s hear your thoughts!

- Will the St. Louis Blues make the playoffs? Why or why not?
Yes, because I’m a Blues fan
- What is happening to the New Jersey Devils? Why are they struggling so much?
If this slump happened 1-2 months ago, nobody would notice. Some teams just struggle a bit, that’s all.
- Is this the last hurrah in Minnesota for Wild head coach Jacques Lemaire? If so, where do you think he will end up coaching next? Why?
Probably. Lemaire is an awesome coach, but it’s obvious the Wild will never be an elite team with him around. Too many skilled players do not want to play in Minnesota because he coaches there. It’s not his fault, so to speak, but it isn’t working the way the Wild would like.
- Have the Montreal Canadiens finally righted the ship after a dismal February and early March? What have they done differently?
4-3-3 in their past 10 is hardly a big boon. Sitting Kovalev at home seemed to help, but the club is still erratic and has a lot of problems we do not yet know about.
- Does anyone really believe that Philadelphia Flyers’ netminder Martin Biron can lead his club to the Stanley Cup?
No, but we’ve seen teams with lesser goalies (Detroit) do just fine. Biron is adequate as long as the Flyers play their usual aggressive style.
- Are the Chicago Blackhawks good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs?
Not quite. They are very inexperienced, and also seem a bit weak defensively up front ... although Pahlsson helps that a bit. The Hawks have the skill, but seem destined to be ousted in round 1 or 2.
- Do the Detroit Red Wings have good enough goaltending to get them back to the Stanley Cup Finals?
This might actually kill them. Osgood has been terrible and Babcock seems unwilling to give Conklin the #1 job, no matter how badly Osgood is doing.
If I were playing against the Wings, I’d play an aggressive, physical game. Detroit ought to be tired after their playoff run last year, and Osgood is shaky. Go fast and go hard.
