Kukla's Korner

Goal Line Report

Time to Dig Deep

From good friend of the blog Jim Cerny at NewYorkRangers.com:

If the Rangers believed there was enough sense of urgency in their collective game as of late, head coach John Tortorella delivered a message heading into this evening’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Mellon Arena that he does not think it’s enough.

“That’s the thing that’s right in front of us, and it’s something that we can control,” Tortorella said Thursday following practice. “That’s the responsibility of the coaching staff and the players to get to another level to find a way to get points at a desperate time.”

Rangers alternate captain Vinny Prospal said the Blueshirts have to play harder on a consistent basis to have success tonight against the Pens at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, where Prospal just happened to score his first NHL goal nearly 13 years ago.

Tortorella delivered an impassioned pep talk to his players during Thursday’s practice. Then, following practice at the MSG Training Center, the Rangers held a closed-door team meeting before flying to Pittsburgh.
