From the staff at TSN.ca:
The Tampa Bay Lightning are holding a press conference this afternoon where they will announce a new multi-year deal for head coach Rick Tocchet.
Tocchet and Lightning general manager Brian Lawton have been working on a new contract since the beginning of May, with the holdup being nothing more than finishing the details.
The Scarborough, Ontario native was given the ‘interim’ tag in November when the club fired Barry Melrose following a 5-7-4 record. Under Tocchet, the Bolts were 19-33-14 and finished the season 24-40-18 for 66 points; enough to finish second-last in the league.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the Lightning? Why?

This topic is amusing enough to warrant back to back posts.
So, do Tampa fans realize that Melrose got fired after 16 games for getting 43.75% of possible points, and Tocchet’s getting a long-term deal for getting… wait for it…
...39.39% of possible points?
Ladies and Gentlemen, your Tampa Bay Lightning!!!

Ah, what a joke! I could name at least 5 other coaches who would help us get more wins than Tocchet. But what else do you expect from these owners?

Maybe Tocchet provides an, um ‘secondary revenue stream’ for the Lightning ownership group?
“Hey, Rick… um, how about you try and get some of Vinny’s salary back for us, mkay?”

About Goal Line Report
The Goal Line Report will focus on all things Eastern Conference. Do I have a bias towards the Eastern Conference just because I am a New Yorker? No, but it certainly does make things easier! I’ll make my opinions known on Eastern Conference news bits (as often as I can), big games, hot and cold players, trades (I don’t make things up) and anything and everything else related to the Eastern Conference that I think is important for hockey fans to know. I will, in every sense of the word, be the beast of the East while also making sure to drop my thoughts on other hockey news items.
I, Patrick Hoffman, have covered the NHL since 2003 and have worked for a variety of hockey media sources including: Stan Fischler, Spector’s Hockey, TheHockeyNews.com, HockeyBuzz.com, McKeen’s Hockey, Blueshirt Bulletin, XM Home Ice Channel Hockey Blog, HockeyPrimeTime.com, FantasyHockey.com. Hey, when you’re in Tampa and you find a coach who can guide the team to 19 wins in 66 games, you don’t let that kind of talent go.
