Your Thoughts on My Fantasy Hockey Roster

Good evening folks. Nice to know that the NHL season finally commences this week and we can all get ready for talking about line combinations, trades, game action and other news around the New York Rangers and the National Hockey League in general.

For now though, before I go watch a replay of the Blackhawks vs. HC Davos game on NHL Network, I wanted to share my fantasy hockey league roster with you. I am in the league on Yahoo.com and my team name is the Blue Wave (I know, I know…corny…I named it after a high school hockey team that I will be covering this season).

Continue below for my roster and let’s hear your thoughts and suggestions:

Goalies
Henrik Lundqvist
Nikolai Khabibulin
Vesa Toskala

Forwards
Anze Kopitar
Mikko Koivu
Daymond Langkow
Thomas Vanek
Ray Whitney
Brenden Morrow
Johan Franzen
Brad Boyes
Mike Knuble

Defensemen
Mark Streit
Brian Campbell
Drew Doughty
Ron Hainsey

Bench
Ryan Malone
Petr Sykora

Without knowing your league’s details (scoring system, # teams, keeper?), it’s difficult/impossible to judge.

i think koivu could be your high scorer.. i like kopitar to break 80 points this season.. he has looked good in the preseason so far… vanek, franzen, boyes will all break 35 goals.. get rid of toskala.. there has to be someone better in the free agent pool than sykora.

Hey Patrick,

Oy, I just finished my own fantasy draft an hour ago.  (Post on that to come, perhaps)  We’ve got a couple of players in common: Mikko Koivu and Brendan Morrow—I believe the former is set to have his premiere year as Minnesota’s first line center.  But who will be his Gaborik now?  Brendan Morrow I have a good feeling about…. sorta.  Our league judges PIMs as good, so I think he’ll be the most effective PIM logging high-scoring forward—if his thigh stops hurting him and he learns to drink from something other than a sippy-cup between periods.

Franzen, Vanek and Kopitar are your most valuable forwards.  Unfortunately, only Vakek is anywhere near keeper status.  I love Franzen but he’s overrated in fantasy circles.

You’re shallow at D with Streit and Campbell… but good late pull with Streit, I imagine.

King Henrik will rock for you.  Khabibulin was a pariah for me last year but he can prove himself if he feels like it.  Good luck with that.

How many people are in your league?  I’m guessing by your players you got a late pick in a deep one.  If so, I think you’ve managed your draft fairly well… but you’re going to have to keep an eye on the wire and trade possibilities to win.

Good luck!

Somewhat similiar to mines.  I have ovechkin, boyle, green, lundqvist, morrow, b. richards, giroux, kopitar, vanek, jokinen, kariya, tanguay.  But this is simple points only pool. Only bonus is to goalies if they get a shut out, its an extra 3 points.
