Your Thoughts on The 2008-09 NHL Season

Well folks. Another season has come and gone, a new Cup winner has been crowned and Gary Bettman finally gets what he wants with his prized possession (Sidney Crosby) winning the Stanley Cup.

With that in mind, I want to hear your thoughts on the 2008-09 NHL season. Feel free to let it all out!

- What teams/players surprised you most this season?

- What teams/players disappointed you the most this season?

- Which player was the unsung hero of this season?

- What was your favorite moment of the season?

- How did this year’s playoffs help the sport?

- What can the league do to make the game better next season?

The NHL is slowly becoming the NBA. They are beginning to manipulate outcomes, all in the name of the mighty dollar and marketing.

Let me reiterate: this is NOT the Pens fault. Just because the NHL had a strong desire to see Pitt wins, does not detract away from the fact the Pens played hard, and used every last ounce of energy they had in order to win this thing. The problem is in the fact the NHL’s manipulation of events is beginning to take away from the hard work of the players.

All in all, a fun year as a Wings fan, even if they were bipolar for a percentage of the season.

Biggest dissapointment, the Avs.  Nuff said there.

Biggest surprise.  The Blues.  I thought the Avs would be fighting them for last place in Jan.

Hero of the year.  Sorry Wings fans, I just have to give this one to Fleury.

Tool of the year.  Mats Sundin and the soap opera that was his life for half the season.

Best moment(s).  Wolski making every goalie he faced in the shootout look like a junior league callup!

This years playoffs helped the NHL due to the “golden boy” hoisting the cup, the young Pens against the Big Red Machine,  and more exposure on NBC.

What the NHL could change.  Letting other teams besides the Pens play on a nationally televised game on NBC.  I have to admit, besides the Winter Classic, every game I saw on NBC this season featured the Pens against ______ (place other team here).  I was getting tired of the crush that NBC had (has) with Sidney Crosby.

Another thing the NHL could change.  Finally getting it through their thick skulls that if a team hasn’t been profitable for over ten years it should go somewhere it will be or be collapsed.  I’m looking at Phoenix, Atlanta, Nashville, and both teams in Florida.

Now that’s funny!
It was even funnier when Mario alluded to Sid moving out finally now that he has a Cup.  It’s not like his $8.7 mil a season can’t afford to get a house of his own.
