From Sean Leahy at Puck Daddy:
Now that we know who’s heading where and when for the 2009-10 season, let’s take a gander at some of the games we’re most looking forward to this year.
San Jose Sharks at Colorado Avalanche (October 1, 2009)
The Sharks begin yet another season in which they’ll break their fans’ hearts come springtime. Besides the date also being Opening Night for the National Hockey League, the Avalanche will honor their long-time captain, Joe Sakic(notes), by retiring his No. 19 to the Pepsi Center rafters. Representatives from Toro will be barred from the arena.
Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers (October 8, 2009)
When Flyers general manager acquired Chris Pronger (notes) from the Anaheim Ducks, it brought the “Battle of Pennsylvania” to another level. Gone is the traffic cone that was Derian Hatcher(notes), who will now be replaced by the suspendable elbows of Pronger. It’s amazing how year to year, no matter how much the rosters turnover, the hatred is still there on the ice.
Chicago Blackhawks at Detroit Red Wings (October 8, 2009)
A rematch of the Western Conference Finals and Marian Hossa’s(notes) first visit to Joe Louis Arena since he signed a 12-year deal with Chicago. Red Wings fans swore up and down that they won’t boo Hossa like Pittsburgh fans. I believe them. They should cheer as Hossa’s departure ensures the Red Wings a good chance at winning another Stanley Cup.
