Dynamic Duo

Throughout training camp and preseason, New York Rangers’ head coach Tom Renney had Markus Naslund and Nikolai Zherdev together.
During this time, the two found instant chemistry by being able to find each other on the ice, utilize their speed, jump into open holes and more importantly, create scoring chances.
Two months later, the two players are doing it again and last night’s 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning was a perfect example.

What to make of the Tampa Bay Lightning

Not only are the Tampa Bay Lightning not scoring, but they’re also making life difficult for their goaltenders.
Through two games, both of which the Lightning lost by a score of 2-1, the team has scored just two goals and has allowed 80 shots on goal. Yes, they’ve gotten away with it because both Mike Smith and Olaf Kolzig have been unbelievable in the two games but can they make it through a full season like that?
This blogger certainly doesn’t think so.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Are They For Real?

Last season, the Tampa Bay Lightning were not only the joke of the Eastern Conference, but also the entire National Hockey League finishing with the worst record at 31-42-9 for 71 points.
Going into this season, however, the Lightning may turn out to be one of the better teams in the league with new acquisitions Ryan Malone, Gary Roberts, Olaf Kolzig, Jussi Jokinen, Vaclav Prospal, Radim Vrbata, Mark Recchi, Andrej Meszaros, Matthew Carle and oh yeah, the No.1 draft pick of 2008, Steven Stamkos.
Put those players with the likes of new team captain Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis, you’re suddenly looking at a team who has as good a chance as any to win the Southeast Division and make a run deep into the playoffs.
