Would You Trade Ovechkin For Nash?
by Paul on 02/25/12 at 02:12 PM ET

from Chuck Gormley of CSNWashington,
Take a deep breath and exhale before you read this:
Alex Ovechkin for Rick Nash. Straight up.
Would you do it? If the Blue Jackets threw in a first-round pick or a top prospect, would you even consider it?
More importantly, would George McPhee and Ted Leonsis pull the trigger on such an enormous, franchise-altering deal?
Probably not….
Ovechkin, who will turn 27 in September, has nine years and $85.85 million remaining on the 13-year extension he signed with the Capitals in 2008. Ovechkin carries a cap hit slightly over $9.5 million and has a no-trade clause that kicks in July 1, 2014.
Nash, who will turn 28 in June, has six years and $46.8 million remaining on an eight-year extension he signed in 2010. Nash carries a cap hit of $7.8 million and has a no-movement clause through the 2014-15, one he apparently is willing to waive.

NEW YORK (February 6, 2012)—Colorado Avalanche forward Chuck Kobasew has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for tripping Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis in NHL Game No. 770 in Colorado on Saturday, Feb. 4, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 13:20 of the second period. Kobasew received a minor penalty for tripping Hamhuis as the Vancouver player touched the puck on an icing call.

Canucks did win in the shootout.

Duchene Out At Least A Month With Bad Knee

via Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,
I’m not a doctor, but from what I gather, there will be further testing on Duchene’s knee once some of the swelling goes down. It’s possible this could be longer term. BUT, the early tests indicate – at least from that the principals are telling me – that we’re not talking about some catastrophic injury, some torn up ACL or anything.

Coach Peter Worrell
by Paul on 12/30/11 at 01:25 PM ET

from Dan Hickling of the Journal Tribune,
A towering presence at 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, (Peter) Worrell was all muscle and mayhem, and in a seven year NHL stay with Florida and Colorado, battled his way to a whopping 1,554 minutes in penalties.
How many of those do you think came for delay of game?
Hah.
Which is what makes the notion of the massive Carribean-Canadian coaching a high school hockey team from South Florida so intriguing.
Those enormous hands, which when curled into bone hammers pummeled more than 100 tough opponents from 1997-2004, are now given the task of molding young players at North Broward Prep, a team making its first appearance this week in the Maine High School Hockey Invitational.
And doing it quite well, we might add, as lopsided wins over Bangor and Lewiston, both of them strong Maine high school programs, will bear witness to.
“We have a good, talented program,” said Worrell. “We’re just a little young.”

Your Thoughts- Wings/Avs Outside?
by Paul on 12/30/11 at 12:32 PM ET

from Adrian Dater of Sports Illustrated,
Can you picture this?
It’s 25 degrees outside on an early January night and the Detroit Red Wings are taking to the ice against the Colorado Avalanche under the silhouette of the Rocky Mountains. More than 76,000 fans are packed inside Sports Authority Field in Denver, including—brace yourselves—TIM TEBOW.
One of the greatest rivalries in sports history—not just the NHL—is revived for one day at least. And in case the current Avs and Wings wouldn’t be enough of an attraction, there is the alumni game to consider. Are you saying you wouldn’t tune in to see Claude Lemieux and Darren McCarty face off one more time? Or Patrick Roy against Mike Vernon? Adam Foote against Brendan Shanahan? Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg against Steve Yzerman and Sergei Fedorov?

No penalty on the play and I am not really sure why Hejda started going down before the hit. Did he see Torres coming or was it just a fall?
