Evening Line

Booth has struggled this season, but watching the camp and also watching David Booth I could argue that he is the best pure “sniper” the Americans have and his slow start is a testament to this. Snipers are by their nature streaky players. Right now he is ice cold, but if Booth gets hot at the right time you would probably want him on your top unit. Booth is the Joey Mullen of this group.

-Dwayne (Eklund) in his Team USA outlook today.  Dwayne has David Booth on the taxi-squad (there isn’t one) and by his remarks, is oblivious to the fact that Booth has been out with a concussion since October 28th.

Not the first time Dwayne has showed his lack of hockey knowledge and won’t be the last.

added 8:02pm, Craig Custance of the Sporting News spoke with Booth recently.  You have to feel for the guy and let’s hope the NHL does something about the hits to the head.

added 11/20/09 7:36am, Well what do you know, Dwayne changed his post without mentioning any correction.  This folks, is how he deceives people…

We Knew That

via Chris McCosky of the Detroit News,

There’s been some chatter on the internet hinting that the Red Wings were among the teams in Sweden this week to scout Peter Forsberg, who is healthy again and competing in the Karjala Cup tournament.

The Wings may very well be scouting that tournament, but I just exchanged emails with Ken Holland and he very clearly said the team had no interest in Forsberg.

Chris, I know you are new on the beat this season so a little bit of advice.  The internet hinting comes from a guy who just wants hits on his website.  Case closed.

Sometimes Common Sense Comes Into Play

via George Malik of Snapshots at Mlive,

For the record: the weird dude who asks fans to pay $20 to read “exclusive” rumors on his fire-some-darts-at-a-"chart"-and-see-what-sticks board claims that the Red Wings want to move Jimmy Howard to the Toronto Maple Leafs for “prospects and picks,” which is unbelievably ridiculous--the Wings’ coaches, management, and Jim Bedard have put in thousands of hours attempting to shape a once-overweight and flop-to-stop-prone goaltender into a solid NHL stopper, and the Wings will see what Howard can do at the NHL level before addressing whether they need to acquire a veteran back-up to do Howard’s job.  There’s no way in hell that the Wings would jettison an affordable back-up for a few potential tomorrows.

Newspapers & New Media

Today Defending Big D presents the second half of our two-part discussion on the changing landscape of sports journalism. In this half of our discussion we switch gears a bit and talk about blogs and the business of sports websites.

Eklund, and his website HockeyBuzz.com, has made a living off spreading rumors and has become a well known figure for online hockey writers. Do you feel that the fact that this arguably semi-credible hockey blogger has obtained mainstream credibility (supposedly) and press credentials has set back the efforts of hardworking writers to obtain credibility in the eyes of the traditional media?

Wyshynski: If the traditional media wants to believe that all bloggers are as unethical as Dwayne Klessel, that’s unfortunate ... but it’s ultimately their issue of perception. Again, it’s no different than a blogger believing all newspapers behave like the New York Post.

First, it should be said that Dwayne Klessel has a business model that works, and has put together an impressive hockey community…

Heika: This goes in hand with the answer above. Because of the rules set up by my organization, we need to get a source to say he will be a source, and we need to have that source have direct knowledge of the situation we are reporting.

much more at Defending Big D.

On the Dwayne topic, many of the MSM have no idea what Dwayne did to bloggers in the past.  From flat out lies, to deception, to things that will go unmentioned, but the bloggers know and will always remember those days.

Another Rumor Shot Down

from Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun,

With his client’s first shot at unrestricted free agency only a couple of sleeps away, Bryon Baltimore won’t let it be known where Jay Bouwmeester stands.

At least not to the media in regards to negotiations with the Calgary Flames.

However, Baltimore was willing to shoot down any rumours of a deal already being in place between the Flames and the defenceman.

One infamous Internet site claimed yesterday a deal with a cap hit of US$6.3 million was in place, which had tongues wagging among Flames fans.

“I can dispel that rumour,” Baltimore said from Edmonton. “We have not agreed to anything because we haven’t even talked yet.”

continued

Remember folks, THAT blogger only wants site hits so be prepared for stuff like this in the next few days.  Also, someone should ask him about his ‘breaking’ story of the Lightning drafting Ashton Carter (yes I know it is Carter Ashton, but he didn’t) on Friday night.  I would point it out to you on his Twitter and website, but he deleted both posts.

Give It Up Dwayne!

Both Alanah and A2Y have brought it up, now Puck Daddy gets involved.

Many of you know what Dwayne has done to KK in the past, if not, just click the Dwayne tag at the bottom of this post and make sure to read all of posts regarding him.

I guess he is still fooling and deceiving people, telling them about his journalism degree from McGill and how well he is connected with the NHL.  It is up to you to decide but one has to wonder why no other well known bloggers, most who have met him, have anything good to say about him.

Getting back to the Puck Daddy story regarding TwitterBurke, raise your hand if you did not know it was a parody!  Hey you in the back with your hand up, you don’t belong here, the hockey talk is much too advanced for you.

The Fraud

from Chris Botta of Islanders Point Blank,

How do you respond to a fraud?

Do you even try?…

Do you link to all the stories written by pros questioning his integrity and even his life story?…

Do I discuss how the Islanders once caught the fraud back-timing his reports to make it look like he had a trade scoop before anyone else?

It Has Happened Before & Will Happen Again

Yes, I received your emails, pointing out the Eklund (Dwayne) situation.

Yes, I read what Eklund said about it...

I was obviously largely offline from around 5pm on, as a very serious family situation kept me from even seeing the error until a few minutes ago.

Hmmm, but it must have not been too serious, since he was at HF Boards at 6:30pm last night (catch the link early, the time/date will change on his next visit).

People, he has done this stuff in the past and will continue to do so in the future.  Either chose to live in his world or demand some real answers from him.

added 6:33am
, More on this from Kevin Schutlz at AOL Fanhouse and Pension Plan Puppets has it too.

added 1:54pm More at Puck Daddy.

Better Things To Do

from Stu Hackel of Slap Shot at the New York Times,

Oh, and have you heard the latest heap being shoveled by the gossip-mongering character Eklund? He’s got info that the Rangers will trade Scott Gomez to the Canucks to clear cap space so they can sign Sundin. “This source is a source I very much trust,” he writes. “Of course, Mats still has to come to play.”…

Staggering what some people will post in their blogs.

Hey, it’s summer. It’ll make you watch water polo on TV, and make you believe Eklund. You can probably do better things with your time.

more from Stu and some real topics too…

Stu must have caught the blog sometime today, because in the same blog last night Dwayne had Robert Lang signing with the Canadiens if Sundin decided to go elsewhere.  Of course, after being blasted about Lang signing with the Canadiens (he is under contract with the Blackhawks), he deleted that portion and changed it around.

But of course, this is the norm for Dwayne, it happens on numerous occasions and to think of it- Dwayne tried to get me to join a professional bloggers association with him.!
