At Least The Logo Had A Panther In It

from Fox Sports Florida,
Even in a town where the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins usually take center stage, the area’s NHL team bouncing back for a playoff victory after falling behind 3-0 in the first six minutes of the game is certainly something to celebrate.
Problem is, the station used the wrong Panthers logo in their package — and not just the wrong Florida Panthers logo, either. The FOX affiliate used the logo for Miami-based Florida International University alongside a Devils insignia and the headline, “Panthers Pounce.”
Oops.
read on and a screenshot of the oops can be seen too…

Panthers End Ten Year Playoff Drought
by Paul on 04/05/12 at 11:58 PM ET

from Harvey Fialkov of the SunSentinel,
...once it soaked in that the Panthers had staggered into a playoff berth following their hard-fought 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals Thursday night at a rocking Verizon Center, the sweat-soaked players began smiling at the thought of no longer hearing about the dreaded NHL-record 10-season postseason drought.
Especially, center Stephen Weiss, the longest-tenured Panther, who after 635 NHL games will finally taste his first postseason game next Wednesday either as the third, seventh or eighth seed.
He didn’t care that the Panthers snuck in the back door because the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Sabres 2-1 to eliminate Buffalo and allow both Florida and Washington into the Stanley Cup tournament.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet, just excited,’’ said Weiss, his eyes red from a combination of sweat and tears. “I couldn’t care less how it happened. We’re in. All you got to do is get in and anything can happen. If we play the way we played tonight, we’ll be all right.’’
The Panthers (92 points), who have lost eight of nine (1-3-5) can still win their first-ever Southeast Division title if they get one point against the vacation-bound Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night at BankAtlantic Center.

Capitals Focused On Two Points, Florida On One Point

from Katie Carerra of Capitals Insider,
To a man, the Capitals made it clear that heading into Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers, their focus is on winning to stay on target of reaching the playoffs. That there remains a slim chance of capturing the Southeast Division title is nice, they said, but the players didn’t want to look beyond the most pressing task at hand.
“I don’t think you look that far ahead, I think you just look at the immediate thing,” winger Mike Knuble said. “If we had won in Tampa, this might have shaped up to be an even crazier or bigger game, but I think we just worry about the immediate concern of winning the game. You have to take care of that before anything else can happen. If you don’t win the game a lot of other things can’t or won’t happen, so that’s the big building block.”
Florida (92 points) needs only one more point to clinch the division or for the Capitals (88 points) to fail to claim all four available to them. Washington could overtake the top spot in the Southeast if it were to win out and the Panthers fail to gain a single point, making the head-to-head meeting all the more intriguing.
