KK- Lite Nite

If you have followed my blogs on NHL.com, you know I have added two women as tenants under my roof and one them turned the big 21 today.

So off we go to do a little celebration but I did make sure the watering-hole has Center Ice.

I probably won’t be updating until I get home later tonight and wish me luck!

added 10/30/09,

The two tenants pictured below before the partying really began..

One Big Happy Social Family

from Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy,

The NHL believes that bringing fans together socially online, and bringing fans closer to their favorite teams and players, is a fundamental way to grow the game in a changing media culture. But will these “fan experiences” happen organically enough to not feel like a corporate marketing campaign; and will the ongoing debate about how teams and players use Twitter result in too much control over their messages to fans?

DiLorenzo is the man behind the NHL Fans microsite, a massive collection of social media that ties together blogs, videos, tweets, user pages and message boards—which have always been the leading attraction for many hockey fans using the NHL’s official team sites.

Oh, This Should Be Fun

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,

I know you’ve got my back out there, Avaholics, and I have a favor to ask: follow me on twitter. My handle is adater (imaginative I know), and by getting me to 1,000 followers by Thursday, you’ll not only make me feel good, but you’ll make a bitter Red Wings crank blogger out there feel really bad. Who’s with me?

At last check, I’m up to 823 followers. A couple days ago, I put out a tweet saying if I didn’t get to 1,000 followers by Thursday, I’d quit twitting. As many of you know, I have a sarcastic side, and I actually meant the tweet as a joke.

But some stuffshirt Wings blogger by the name of “iwocpo” from the site “Kukla’s Korner” took it as a personal affront (this is probably the same tough guy who likes to make fun of somebody’s mother and sister and a guy who almost died from a sucker punch by one of his Old Wings players (You know the one, Mr. It Is What It Is) and has started an “unfollow” campaign on me). Yawn.

continued and Adrian, his blog is Abel to Yzerman and it can be found here

added 6:42pm, IwoCPO responds.

Hockey Bloggers And Their Stats

from Jamie Fitzpatrick of Jamie’s Hockey Blog at About.com,

With a few exceptions, mainstream hockey reporters no longer dismiss the Internet as a wasteland of inarticulate fanboy rants and lame trade rumors.

There’s a growing acceptance of hockey blogs as part of the essential reading in today’s NHL.

A gulf remains between bloggers and traditional hockey media. The best newspaper reporters and broadcasters remain the best sources for news and perspective.

But the bloggers have their strengths as well. One field where they are well ahead of the guys in the press box is in the use of hockey statistics.

continued & as an added feature, if you click the first link in Jamie’s blog, you get to see IwoCPO of A2Y in action from a feature HNIC did on bloggers a few seasons ago.  Also The Puck Stops Here gets a mention along with numerous other blogs.

Watching Those Comments

from Mike Boone of the Montreal Gazette,

No one remembers how it started, but the Habs Inside/Out bench-clearing brawl got really ugly really fast.

I’ve described the HIO Comments section as the world’s biggest tavern sports discussion. There are times, however, when it becomes a daycare with a liquor licence.

That’s what happened in August. An exchange of viewpoints became so heated that some perceived a threat of violence implicit in some of the Comments.

Hey, I’m no choirboy. Part of the fun of being a sports fan - a Canadiens fan in particular - is voicing strong opinions, often loudly and in words of one syllable.

But there are limits. Threats are way over the line.

So that’s when Plan Prefect kicked into high gear.

Can’t Miss Action

from me at NHL.com,

This is why I stay up late almost every night during the hockey season. This is why I will never turn off a game that looks like a blowout. This is why I am a hockey fan.

NYI Point Blank Saved

from Chris Botta of NYI Point Blank,

Thanks to a very kind offer of support from my employers at FanHouse, Point Blank will be in business for another year. My deepest gratitude goes to my editors at FanHouse, and especially the PB reader/AOL executive who introduced my work to the sports department.

Thanks also go to Chris Dey of the Islanders for creating this venture, Islanders players and coaches for their accessibility and cooperation and, of course, to the readers who keep on coming back to Point Blank.
