10 Reasons to Look Forward to the 2008-09 Season

From Mike Brophy at The Hockey News,
• Can Sidney Crosby wrestle away the scoring title and MVP award from Alex Ovechkin? Sid the Kid was making his move up the scoring charts this season when he suffered a high ankle sprain that ultimately shelved him 29 games. Still, he came back and led his team to the Stanley Cup final.
• Will Chris Chelios play again? Truth is, I hope he does. Although he was a healthy scratch during the final, the 46-year-old Chelios can still be a fine No. 5 defender on the defending champs. I’d love to see him hit his goal of playing until he’s 50.

What I want to see this upcoming season (other than the Wings lifting the Cup again) are the Wings/Sharks games. Coach Babcock versus Coach McLellan.
Should be a good one.

PuckStopsHere,
Brophy didn’t say they’d win those games, he said:
I see a lot of 8-7 and 9-6 games in their future.

That’s true, but I don’t see how they can score 6 or 7 goals per game either.

Perhaps you underestimate the effects of icing a team made up entirely of forwards. ![]()
Granted, it would help if they had more forwards known for scoring goals, but you work with what you got.

On his list. Watching Tampa win 8-7 and 9-6 games. That sounds like pure fantasy to me. They scored 2.7 goals per game last year, added nobody who came close to a point per game and now he thinks they can score 8 or 9 goals in a game?
