A Great Showcase For The NHL

From Wednesday’s practices in the snow to Marco Sturm’s overtime game-winner, the 2010 Winter Classic was everything the NHL hoped it would be—and more.

It showcased the game’s speed, skill, brutality and brawn.

But most of all, it brought a much-needed element of fun to a sport that too often is viewed by the general sporting public as vanilla.

“It was a great showcase of the game,” said Flyers president Peter Luukko, the driving force behind the Flyers’ inclusion in the New Year’s Day event. “Two clubs hitting hard. It was great. It was one heck of a game. I’ve got to think this is everything the league wanted.”
