A Look At The Wings Future Goaltenders

from Bob Duff of the Windsor Star,
Barring a sudden change in thinking, 1991 Wings draftee Chris Osgood will carry Detroit’s goaltending load during the 2009-10 National Hockey League season, occasionally relieved by Jimmy Howard, a 2003 Wings pick.
For the first time since the dismal 1985-86 season, when Greg Stefan and Mark Laforest handled the bulk of the netminding chores, the Wings are intent on going with two homegrown products between the pipes.
Look for it to become a trend.
“They’ve always been good at bringing up players and I think they’ve definitely shifted their attention into trying to bring up some goalies,” McCollum said.
With a salary cap governor on his bankbook, Detroit general manager Ken Holland, himself an ex-NHL netminder, is of the opinion that investing heartily in a goaltender is not money spent wisely.
