A Premium On Premium Pricing

from SnapShots of Mlive,
Well, surprise, surprise, in addition to boosting the prices of single-game tickets in a state that continues to lose jobs at an astonishing race based upon a Stanley Cup win, they’ve also introduced “premium” game pricing. If you want to go see the Wings raise their Stanley Cup banner against the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 9th, you pay from $45-125 in the upper bowl, and from $125-235 in the lower bowl.
Want to see the Wings play an Original Six rival in the Rangers on Saturday, October 18th? It’ll cost you from $35.00-$95.00 in the upper bowl, and from $95-195 to sit in the lower bowl.

Most Wings games won’t sell out this year…..just like last year.

I’ve never understood the grousing about prices for sporting events. Take the money you’d spend on tickets and whatnot for a 5 game package and buy a great 32-40 inch 720p+ TV with an expanded HD subscriber package from your local cable or dish provider.
Price increases only matter if you pay it. Technology has progressed to the point that watching the game from home actually provides a better experience than being 100-200 ft away from the rink like 90% of tickets are.
Why do people not understand this?

Because there’s something quintessentially different about live hockey vs. TV hockey, even in HD. You’re still at the mercy of cameras and announcers on TV, whereas at the game, you can see what you like, experience it how you like, and pay $8 for beer. It’s not rational, but it is what it is.

What Doogie2K said. Being in the rink, seeing the players up close and personal, being able to feel the entire rink react to momentum changes and rise in a 20,000-person cheer when the home team scores a goal, to be able to see the nuances behind the play and on the bench, there’s absolutely nothing like going to a game in person.

Then open thine wallets and cease thine vociferous complaints. ![]()
Seriously, why do people think there’s some onus on a for-profit organization to make things negligently expensive?

Looks like the only live hockey will be able to see is my nephews pee wee team and the Saginaw Spirit. Both are very affordable and I dont have to burn another $100 in gas too.
