With just over five minutes to go in the 3rd period, a three minute ovation for Modano.
Mike went on to tie the game in regulation and score the shootout winner.
via Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
“It was tough to leave the ice there not knowing what the future holds; if that was it or it wasn’t,’’ he (Modano) said. ``You have nights like that, you think ‘this could keep going.’ You can play well if things go well for you like that; you finally score on your first shootout of the year. I don’t know if there was fate there, but certainly when you have nights like that it makes you ponder that decision a little longer.”

That was beautiful. I have no other word for it. Well done Dallas fans. You just proved you still deserved a team. Touching to see Modano cry. He always was my favourite non-Wing and a class act.

It’s always sad to see a great veteran hang ‘em up. He was always a thorn in the Red Wings side to the point where I never liked him as a rival, but I always respected his game and class.

Chills. What a great display of love from the Dallas fans for Modano. If you’re not moved by this video, you’re not human.

What does the announcer say at 8:36? The “vaselinity”? Is that a word?

@Lyle Richardson: Couldn’t have said it any better, Mike Modano.. a class act all around.
And wow.. that 2nd video goes straight to my favourites.

Another of the “old school guys” down. I always did like Modano, hard not to if you are a true fan of the game.
I’ll miss seeing the “flappity flap” of his jersery.

If Modano retires, and he has too much class to pull a Favre, it will be a melancholy day. Great player, Wing Killer, but all class. It will be a sad day to see that Livonia product hang up his skates.
