“A Sure Thing”

from The Maven at MSG Network,

There will be another NHL expansion and you can put your money on Las Vegas as being the 31st team. The reasons why Sin City has the lead are many. Start with the fact that it would be very difficult for ownership to reject a HUGE entrance fee which would top anything the league has known. Plus a new rink is going up in LV and the very influential Phil Anschutz is behind the move.

more bits from Stan…

It wouldn’t be Fischler without the fleben…

He hearts Gary…

*Gary Bettman is sounding a conciliatory tone in the Civil War over NHL schedule changes. No question that the slate balance won’t be the same after this season. What can’t be overlooked is the tug-of-war. Some Eastern teams – such as the Devils – want as many local rivalry matches as possible. Others are campaigning for a dramatic alteration in the other direction. Master of compromise, the Commissioner no doubt will find a middle ground.

And some “high hockey type” who might be Bill Daly or Pierre LeBrun, of course, provides ammo against the PA:

People in high hockey places who are dealing with the NHL Players’ Association continue to get the impression that the still-headless union does not know what it’s doing. As one high hockey type tells us. “When you deal with the Union these days, every other day you have to deal with somebody else. No one seems to be in charge.”

If having Phil Anschutz is the key to getting an expansion team, wouldn’t Kansas City be at the top of the list, based on the arena?
