A Tricky Situation

from Al Strachan at Fox Sports,

Every time a serious problem arises, they first pull the ostrich routine. Then they go into denial mode.
Then they go into containment, as in, “We don’t really see it as a problem.”
Then it goes into commissioner Gary Bettman’s favorite phase — a work in progress. And eventually — maybe — something of substance gets done, but not until serious damage has been inflicted on the game.
We saw it with clutching and grabbing. That took 10 years to elicit a response. We’ve seen it with attendance. And now we’re seeing again with an even more serious problem — head shots.
Granted, this is, as Freddie Mercury used to like to say, “a tricky situation.”

Al Strachan has it all wrong. Al wants to create more “bureaucracy” or red tape by creating another panel of people to review things, which will no undoubtedly conflict with Colin Campbell. Then they get stuck in the mess.

Why not call for the replacement of Campbell and Bettmen with people that are willing to address and do something to this dangerous situation.

For example, take our government, filled with spineless bureaucrats, wanting to make more laws, blurring the lines or redefine existing laws to wiggle out of actually having to do something that will work. They have no spine to do anything worthwhile. Heck even if they’d just enforce existing laws as originally intended would be nice.

Fire Strachan , Campbell and Bettemen. Hell, fire all of Congress for that matter. We have enough bad ideas already. In fact, what’s Al’s email so i can fire off some comments to him myself?

This isn’t an invitation to debate politics about our government. I am just using them as an example of a bad idea and what could happen by creating a panel as Al suggested.

This is exactly what I was getting at last week with my long rant in the forum.  The NHL executives fail at leadership.  Omit the cheap headshots from the video highlights and maybe no one will notice another star player was unconscious on the ice.  Rapidly disappearing respect among players results in more injuries and cowardly hits while the NHL executives continue clueless.  Isn’t it time for a hockey guy to be in charge of the NHL or are the owners happy because they’re guaranteed to make money now?
