from CBC,
Don Cherry says Roberto Luongo should give up the captaincy of the Vancouver Canucks.
“Next year he should ask not to be the captain,” the Hockey Night in Canada commentator said in his Tuesday night edition of Coach’s Corner on CBC-TV.
Cherry did not blame the Canucks’ goalie for the team’s 5-3 loss Monday night in Los Angeles, which put his team at a 2-1 disadvantage with the Kings in the best-of-seven round in the NHL playoffs.
“I’m not saying that’s [his] fault,” said Cherry.
But he said it could have had a demoralizing effect on the team to see Luongo taken out of the game after letting in four goals.

Right on OSRT.
Doesn’t matter if you’re wearing the “C”, an “A”, or a purple polka-dotted scarf with a tiara. You let in 4 goals and then get yanked, and the team is demoralized.
Pretty sure Cherry hates Luongo because he’s French, so he’s not *really* one of his “good Canadian kids”.

Don’t you mean Lalongo?

Roberto Luongo is not exactly a French name. He is of Italian extraction and grew up speaking (at least) two languages in Montreal, as a lot of kids do, mine included.
Lalongo also sounds Italian.

When a team sees their goalie get pulled later in a game, it’s a moment of collective shame, for the D, the two way players, and for the offensive guns for not giving him enough support. What difference does it make if Luongo is a Aptain or not, especially since he can’t wear the C?
Dumb argument.
And if Luongo is going to be a cornerstone of the team, you keep him as the captain and make him take the next step in his career. If you trust him to be, or become, one of the greats then you take that risk.
