“I don’t think it’s in Joe’s nature to be mean, but when he is mean, he’s unstoppable.  That’s intensity. When you’re intense, you’re a hard person to play against.”

“He can’t pick his spots. For him to be known as one of the greatest players in the world from now on, he’s got to bring that.  He makes a lot of money to bring that intensity. You can’t rely on just his eyes and his know-how all the time.”

-Jeremy Roenick on Joe Thornton.  More from David Pollak at Working the Corners.

Hey, whatever makes them feel better about getting their @$$e$ handed to them by the 8 seed through the majority of this series.

MMarkK, Anaheim was not even close to the “typical” 8th seed and most people realize that.

Yeah but it’s still fun to say.

What is a “typical” 8th seed, anyway?  I believe this would be the exact same excuse Wings fans use to describe 2003 and 2006 playoffs.  Heck, those 8th seeds made it to the finals each time, too.  Were they “typical” or not?

What this means is, if Anaheim knocks off the Sharks this year, that will be three of the last six 8 seeds knocking off the number 1 seed in the West.  I guess you could say that, recently, it’s happened half of the time in this conference.  So, what really is a “typical” 8th seed?

It’s not even about this series, it’s about years and years of the same story repeating itself.

Even if the Sharks pull off the comeback in this series, you have to believe they’re as ripe as ever for their usual second-round exit.

You can’t rely on just his eyes ... those big, deep eyes….  ... the kind you could just get lost in…. and his know-how all the time.

I knew it, Roenick has a crush on Joe Thornton.

Ugh, I posted that, and then realized that the Wings were the number 2 seed in 2003, so nevermind that part.

Does this not strike anyone as Roenick calling out Thornton for not playing playoff hockey until the last game? It reads, smells and tastes like a call out to me.

Me too.

It’s actually pretty shocking that Roenick would say this to the media…almost unheard of. I’m trying to remember a time when a player’s teammate called him out like this in the playoffs, and I can’t. A coach? Maybe. But a teammate?

This isn’t even the first time this series and with the exact same players involved that it’s happened.

Me, too.  I agree.  +1 or whatever the kids are saying at the moment.

If Thornton had any ounce of the heart and courage of Ryan Clowe (whom I’ve seen try many times to take on Sasquatch in a fight only to be thwarted by the constant meddling of the refs and linesmen), this might’ve been an entirely different kind of series.  The Shnarks should not have to bring in a 41-year has-been POS Lepuke to get them motivated.
