“Nick (Lidstrom) was waiting and waiting, and Crosby didn’t come over to shake his hand. That’s ridiculous, especially as their captain, and make sure you write that I said that!”
-Kris Draper of the Detroit Red Wings. More on the Wings from the CP via TSN.
added 6:52pm, via the Detroit News,
...there was a response to Draper’s accusation from Tom McMillan, the Penguins’ vice president of communications.
“There’s nobody who respects the traditions of hockey more than Sidney Crosby,” McMillan told the Post-Gazette. “It was a young team celebrating its first Cup and some of the guys might have been a little late getting into the handshake line.”
There are photographs showing Crosby in the post-game handshake line.

I seen the video,it was a staggered line . A few players at a time from the Penguins were coming from the pile to shake hands. There was alot of breaks and Crosby was last. I seen Lidstrom standing there for maybe 5-10 seconds with Draper behind him. Draper said something to him and then took off. Poor baby just lost to Crosby and didn’t want to wait, like the Penguins did last year.It shows his character that he rather drag Lidstrom into a faux controvery then stand up for himself and just say he didn’t want to wait 15 seconds. No class. Let Lidstrom speak for himself if he’s got a problem. Just more sour grapes from Hockeytown.

this is an prime example why people around the league hate cindy and why he’ll never grow up and never get the class an gretzky or yzerman have around the league. i understand why now red wings fans cheering when crosby got hurt

Crosby is an embarrassment. This series proved it for one and all.

Red Winger, don’t be such a sore loser. Both teams played great, and the Pens deserved the win that they got.

Hey, NHL Jeff, save the lecture. I was in Detroit for the game. I partied with Pens fans, we had a great time. They had no problem with me, so I wouldn’t think a fan of the extremely under-achieving Bruins should have a problem.
The fact Pitt deserved this Cup has no relation to the fact Crosby is an embarrassment.

Actually, I’m a Pens fan who lives in Boston. I was at the game last night too. If you were one of the Wings fans I enjoyed the night with, then I apologize.

Ran into a lot of Pens fans at the Riverwalk pre-game party, then The Post and Cobo Joe’s during the game. After the game there were a lot of Pens fans in our hotel (Courtyard Marriott), I actually watched the third period with eight Pens fans.
All went well.
Only met one jerk. He began to tell me that Pens fans are the classiest in the NHL. As spitting up my beer, he then told me Sabres fans were the second-most classiest. Then he introduced me to his wife, originally from Buffalo, and it all made sense after that.

a big deal made out of nothing ... draper needs to relax; i highly doubt that sid intentionally made lidstrom wait...the kid just one his first cup , well deserved at that, and it can be overwhelming with so much going on , he probably didnt realize the handshake had started. Bravo pens, and detroit, well fought and great competition.thanks for a great series.

redwinger - i was at the game too, section 103 row 15...we had a pretty good experience with most wings fans there, and by and large no arguements at all. except for the one guy and his poor wife behind us who took every opportunity he could to bash Crosby. he was either too slow for his linemates, too far ahead of his linemates, faking his injury when franzen interfered with him along the boards or generally anytime crosby did anything, the guy behind us who most likely was a Hart, Art Ross, Lester B Pearson, and now Stanley Cup Winner himself, he would have a comment.
Just curious, what section were you in?! because this loser behind us sounds a lot like you. First chance you get you hop on here looking to trash Crosby...nevermind the fact that he was one of the first guys to shake hands last year after losing, God forbid Nicole and Krista wait a couple of seconds with the rest of their team to shake hands like the “classy organization” we’ve all been led to believe they are.
Have a great summer!!!!!!!!!!!! GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Crosby shook hands within minutes. I watched it all on TV...two networks. Maybe the real story here is that fact 2 Red Wings left the line early. It’s all perception I suppose. Shame something as silly as this is making headlines when all anyone should be talking about is a tremendous Stanley Cup final...one for the ages.

Ask Coach Babcock. I saw it on NBIC. He shook Crosby’s hand inline and said “Enjoy it eh”. “You showed great Leadership”. Not my words but Coach Babcock’s. By the way I respect the hell out of him. I love his press conferences

why should Lidström have to wait for crosby to come ans shake his hand..I don’t think Lidas need to be a..Lick Crosbys ass fan..they are so many of them in Pittsburgh..and Canada. ..

maybe lidstrom should learn to wait for winners.
Of all the stupid things that ignorant Pens fans have said since Friday night, that one tops the list. Maybe someday Crysbaby will earn the right to lick Nick’s skates. Until then, his responsibilty was to represent his team. And that means passing on all of the personal attention he was getting and skating out to center ice to accept the congratualtions of the losing team.
But, hey, if you know you didn’t deserve to win, I guess you wouldn’t want to look the opposing Captain in the eye.

Didn’t deserve to win? What the hell are you morons that say crap like that smoking? Then who the hell did deserve to win? Certainly not the Red Wings. They didn’t win 4 of the 7 games, the Penguins did, and don’t give me any of the conspiracy crap. The reffing was clearly equally bad for both teams, and even if the league wanted the refs to be more lenient for one team, there is no way to make sure they win. It’s all just so stupid. Why can’t you sore losers just attest to the fact that it was a series for the ages and that the team that deserved to win came out on top, just like last year. Get off your high horse and give the Pens credit where it’s due.

Too busy servicing Gary Bettman I guess ?

So much whining, so little time… Oh wait. You have plenty of time to whine now.
You are so spoiled, thinking that everyone needs to kiss your asses and sing your tune. So Sid was late to the line. Who gives a shit? Bottom line, Pens took the Cup ON YOUR ICE and for the next year are the defending Cup Champions.
Microanalyze everything Sid does from now until next years’s playoffs.
If you miss something, contact RedWinger. He has a sick, twisted obsession with him. I’m guessing some guy named Sid loved and left him at one time..
I guess since Draper did nothing in this series he had to get his name in the paper for something.

I can’t believe Wings fans are actually defending Draper on this one. It doesn’t matter what the topic but they are by far the most disrespectful fans on this forum. They whine and complain more than anyone. Which is odd because they have the least to complain about as they are still the most successful team in the last decade. Just an observation from a fan of neither team.

He was probably too busy contemplating knee surgery after Detroit gooned him and probably put him out for the next six months.
