Mike Valenti of 97.1 fm, the Wings flagship station… A caller asked what about Mac coming back, what will he do to help the Wings?
Valenti: “Nothing. Why did Calgary get rid of him, why did Atlanta get rid of him? You need to ask that question first! Enjoy your memories, because that is all you got. The guy don’t got nothing left.”

Maybe Atlanta didn’t want him so much that they got rid of him before he was even there.

Valenti: “why did Atlanta get rid of him?”
The question for Valenti ought to be: “Why are you qualified to discuss Red Wing Hockey?

I was trying to keep from bursting a blood vessel. Serenity now! ![]()
Still, if he doesn’t have nothing, then he does have something, and thus why would he not possibly help Detroit? If nothing else, wait until there is some…what is the word…oh, that’s right - evidence - that he has anything left before you write him off. He may have nothing left, but there’s no way to tell until he plays.

Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

What ever D-Mac has left, I for one am glad he is giving it to the Wings. By the way , what he has left to give is something called an intangible, a presence if you will. What he brings may not be measured by goals, assists, points, ect…. They are the things that you cannot see. What goes on in the locker room and behind the scenes, that your average joe is not privy to. Last but not least is character. And we all know he is quite a character. His only career hat trick was scored on the great Patrick Roy, and helped us to win the conference finals in 2002. Not to mention scoring the Cup winning goal in 1997 against a bigger tougher Flyers team. Or so the whole hockey world thought. Legion of Broom, not Legion of Doom. Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

I despise Valenti. I hold no ill-will towards MSU, however he (and Drew Stanton) makes me want to see the Spartans fail.
Valenti does nothing but spew hatred towards all while claiming to be a sports know-it-all. He has a facade of being a hard ass when it’s obvious that he is soft and over compensating for something… Check out some of his replies to people hating on him in various message boards. His retorts are pathetic.
I know that I’m not alone in saying that I can’t wait for the day when that “tough guy”, Vince Vaughn wannabe leaves Detroit radio for good. I wouldn’t be surprised if his co-workers felt the same way.

I believe a Steve McCarthy played in Atlanta…
…and still does. Of 254 defensemen ranked in plus/minus he ranks… ready?… 254th. But Atlanta hasn’t got rid of him.
