“I like to get into some scrums in front of the net. I try to play a little gritty. I’m not tough or anything like that, but I try to play hard, go to the net and shoot a lot of pucks and stay for rebounds.”
-Mikael Samuelsson of the Vancouver Canucks. More on Samuelsson from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province.

He knows where the net is?

Of COURSE he does! That’s how he knows where his target is - 10 feet to the right of the net and one foot above it.
I hope that Vancouver included a 15% increase in their glass budget for this season.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Sammy does play hard and he is a “scrappy” kind of guy, but I don’t recall him spending much time right around the net during his time in Detroit. I’ve always thought of him as more of a “sniper” during 5-on-5 play and as a danger to anyone not in front of the net on the power play.
Canucks fans who sit behind the glass are in for a real “treat” this season. They’re going to see lots of pucks off the glass in front of their faces when Sammy’s on the power-play point. Enjoy.
